One of the recipes I wanted to tackle for a Thanksgiving dessert was Red Velvet Cake Balls made from bakerella’s recipe . I used Duncan Hines cake mix and icing to create this delicious dessert.
I had my first experience with Duncan Hines when came home from the Foozbuzz festival with the box of decadent triple chocolate cake mix that came in my swag bag . The mix made some delicious chocolate cupcakes that were a big hit!
What you will need:
Duncan Hines Red Velvet cake mix (and all ingredients that are on the box)
Duncan Hines vanilla frosting (recipe called for cream cheese frosting, but I couldn’t find it in the store. Vanilla worked just as well.)
Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips (regular and white chocolate)
I started off the process by cooking the red velvet cake per the instructions on the box.
I then mixed the cooked cake in with the Duncan Hines vanilla frosting. This is a process, and you really have to put some elbow grease in if you are mixing by hand. After the cake and frosting have evenly distributed, I rolled all the mix into small bite-sized balls.
The final steps were heating up some chocolate in the microwave, dipping the balls into the chocolate, and then allowing them to cool on some wax paper in the refrigerator. I chose to dip them in milk chocolate and drizzle some white chocolate on top.
They were delicious and very rich. This was actually one of my first experiences working with red velvet. Be warned it can stain! The red spots on my apron were certainly worth it because this concoction was a great addition to the dessert table.
