Does Your Doc Talk to You About Your Weight and Lifestyle Choices?

Is your doc mum about lifestyle choices? Credit: rosmary

I’m lucky in that my doctor does triathlons and our usual awkward conversation while I’m getting annual “womanly visit” consists of us catching up on each other’s fitness accomplishments and recent workouts while I pretend that someone looking at my lady parts is totally normal. (It doesn’t matter how many exams I get, they’re just awkward. And I love my doctor.) But apparently my experience is none too common (the fit doctor part, not the awkward part—pretty sure most of us aren’t fans of the stirrups).

Earlier this week, Erin talked about how many doctors don’t discuss weight or a healthy lifestyle with their patients , and I seriously feel lucky to not only have a doctor who makes diet and exercise a key topic at my appointments, but also one who is active and fit herself. And if I gained enough weight that it was putting my health at risk, I’m darn near positive that she’d have a heart-to-heart with me about it. What about you?

And, of course, be sure to tell us more about your doctor—and if you’ve ever left a doctor because they didn’t—in the comments! —Jenn
