DAYS 37, 36, 35: POWER YOGA

I took a day off of work today! It was fabulous and I did things all for me.

I got up at the same time I normally do and went to a yoga studio I've been wanting to try out. I'm searching for ways to reduce stress and ways for me to learn to deal with stress (more about that in later posts). So my friend on SparkPeople suggested Yoga and I thought sure why not. I googled yoga classes in my neighborhood. I know, I belong to two gyms, don't they have yoga? They do. Do I think they're going to be good classes? Not sure. Do I want to do my relaxing/stress relieving yoga in the same place I kick my own butt?? Not really.

Enter Mark Blanchard's Power Yoga!

I got there at 6:45am, just in time for the 6:45am class. There were only 4 people in the class. I was actually shocked. I just thought all the classes would be packed. The website really sells these classes as the greatest thing next to Shirataki Tofu Noodles (YUM). So where is everyone? I told the man at the desk/teacher that this was my first time. He seemed surprised and said 'but you've done yoga before right?' No! It says on the website it's for all levels. I've taken Pilates couple of times and maybe a Yoga class a few years ago but I basically know nothing. I said 'Not really. Is that ok?' He said 'Sure, the best way to learn is to do it right?' This exchange got me nervous. And then I walked into the room and there were only two other people (luckily another one joined).

As the class went on and I got a handle on it I was feeling good. No I didn't know the poses but I felt like I could really keep up with the class strength wise. I think I'm going to be in pain tomorrow but I feel great after the class. Soooo because I liked it so much and I'm trying to really de-stress, I bought a month of unlimited classes for $60. I think this will be good for me. I'm going to go whenever I can. The classes are about 1.5 hours so I will count them as a workout but since they're not TOO intense I'll probably try to do something else as well. It's going to be a busy month but I can at least go on the weekends.

After that I went to a Aroma right down the block. I must say that next to my own block of Studio City, I'm in love with this area. I can't wait to spend more time there, and it's only 1.2 miles from my house. I had a great breakfast while studying for the ACSM exam.

Then I headed to Santa Monica and went for about an hour and a half run. I ran along the beach from right before the Santa Monica pier to past Venice. I think it was at least a six mile run.

It was a great day. Unfortunately I did get a little sunburned but it felt amazing to not be at work and to start off my day with Yoga!

I am still going strong with my challenge!
