Dancing With the Stars TV Workout

Posted by Cindy P.

Dancing with the Stars two night premiere event begins Monday at 8/7 c and I am so excited. In our house, it’s a family evening where the little ones want to be picked up, twirled, spun and take their bows. They love it. I love it. We have an action packed party with the sparkling ballroom dance floor, band, and judges. In three nights, you can have a terrific workout to start the week. I’ve created a three night extravaganza for you to ignite your evenings with Dancing with the Stars.

  1. Work through the How to videos in preparation for the Cha Cha and Quickstep.
  2. Get your groove on during the Dancing with the Stars Pep Rally. Hit Play All on the Playlist. Seven videos of the past Dancing with the Stars performances will play nonstop. Your objective is to keep moving and have fun dancing.
  3. For the shows, check out the suggestions below to enjoy two straight evenings of dancing.

Instead of four hours of sitting on the couch, any episode of Dancing with the Stars can spice up your evening and work your body. We all want to enjoy the dances and watch how the Stars perform, so the segments are tailored to our viewing desires and focused exercises. Don’t worry, while criticizing and analyzing how the Stars are handling the dances, you’ll be able to rest and drink water. Keep your glass of water handy. Most of the show is talking, so there are great opportunities to workout and not feel as if you missed a beat.

TV Workout

mario.jpgStars and Dancer Introductions: Couch Bicycle Runs–Sitting on the edge of the couch, support your upper body with your arms at your side. Lean slightly back and pedal. Press your left foot out toward the floor while your right leg comes up toward your chest. Continue cycling. To increase difficulty, lean further back into the couch. To decrease difficulty, let your outstretched leg touch the floor as you alternate legs.chacha.jpg

The Dance: Rest. What do you like about the dancers? The Stars? Who’s positive? How did they learn all that so quickly?!

judges.jpgJudges Panel: Couch Pushups–Step behind your couch or use the arm rests. Spread your arms shoulder width apart. Maintain a straight line from your neck through your legs. Depending on the height of your couch, you be at a 30 to 60 degree angle from the floor to the back of the couch. Perform 2 sets of 10 with a rest while the second judge speaks.

samantha-harris.jpgBackstage Interview: Pile Squats–Stand with legs slightly further than shoulder width, toes pointed at a 45 degree angle away from the body and heels pointed toward each other. Sit into the squat, keeping your knees above the foot. Do not extend knees over the toes. Keep your back straight and tighten your abdominals. Perform each squat slowly. Speed is unnecessary and will lead to improper technique. Complete as many repetitions as possible during the interview.

Commercials: Lasting anywhere from 2 to 3 minutes, this is a great time to kick up your intensity. Practice the last dance prior to commercials. Mix up your speeds. Spin, step (slow, slow, quick, quick), Stretch out arms, above the head, stand tall, tense your abdominals. Have fun!!!
