Cycling Shoes and Tri Suits

Posted Jun 17 2011 11:18am

Yesterday I got a few things checked off my triathlon "To Do" list.  I went to Breakaway Bikes in Philadelphia and I got my pedals switch out for clips in, clip in shoes, and a second water bottle cage.

So many to choose from!
There was a huge selection!  One ones I chose were good for spinning as well as regular biking and weren't too expensive.  I don't have a picture of them right now, but I'll be sure to snap one when I try them out later today.
Next stop on my list was to go to City Sports and get an outfit to wear for my triathlon.  I knew they wouldn't have a huge selection, but I just needed something basic to wear.  I tried on a variety of tri shorts and tri tops as well as 1 piece tri outfits and I ended up going with a 1 piece Zoot Tri suit.  I went with 1 piece instead of 2 because even though it is slightly less flattering, I didn't want to be pulling the tank top down when it would inevitably ride up a ton of times.  I also chose the blue so that my peeps could spot me a little easier knowing I was in a bright color.  I've said it before, but City Sports has it right.  I had recently gotten a 25% off one item coupon in my email as well as a $5 off coupon from my rewards points from the previous term.  They also have a 10% off student discount.  So I was pretty thrilled with the price I got on the suit.

I decided in the end not to go for the wetsuit, because after doing a lot of research, I don't think I needed it.  If I had one already...hey why not use it.  But they are expensive and who knows if I'm going to like doing triathlons and keep doing them enough to justify the cost.  The only benefit that I could see is that they make you a little more buoyant, but I am sure I won't be the only person at the Philly Tri without a wetsuit  I just hope that people will still go near me after I've been in that disgusting Schuykill water.

In the evening I went to the Union League for a tastey dinner in celebration of Father's Day!   Ceasar Salad

Burger with carmelized onions, boursin cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onionon challah break..OH MY GOSH this was amazing - anything with boursin cheese has the right idea though.

Yesterday I had planned on taking a weight lifting class at the gym, but my arm muscles were still sore from TRX and my abs were killing me frmo that 15 minute ab class I went to.  Holy moley it even hurt to laugh!  I will definitely be going back to a few of those ab classes.
Today I am going to take my bike into the original shop I bought it from for a tune up to make sure I am good to go next weekend.  I also am going to try and fit in a bike, run, and a swim...but that is a bit ambitious because I am gong to the shore later this afternoon.  I better get to it!
