Christopher Warden On Detoxification, ‘Cheating’ and Happiness

Posted Dec 22 2010 4:30pm

Question of the Day I’m on your 30 Day Detoxification, have lost 5 lbs in 15 days and am functioning and feeling great!  Can I cheat on Christmas and New Years Eve . . . and drink a glass or two of champagne?

Short, strict answer:  No.  :)   You’ve come this far, you’re feeling great and there’s no reason to stop now.  To ‘get the best results’ that you’re seeking, you’re best bet is to follow the program as strictly as possible.  Not only will you optimize your results, but you’ll also have the satisfaction of knowing you had self-discipline when temptation was trying to break you down.

Let’s live life a little and ‘be real’ answer:  (Comes in 4 parts)

1)  One or two drinks on each of those nights isn’t going to kill you.

2)  You’ll learn from the experience as you’ll likely feel the effects of the alcohol (those nights and the following mornings) more than you would have before the detox.  In this light, this ‘cheat’ actually becomes a great tool, teaching you just how healthy your body has become . . . and just how powerful the effects of toxins can be.

3) Your happiness will go a lot further in keeping you healthy in the long run — more so than avoiding 1-2 holiday drinks.  Be content with your decision, accept it and there should be no problem.  After all, there’s no point in ‘enjoying’ a couple of drinks if you’ll eventually beat yourself up over it!  :)

4) Just remember that this ‘Detox’ is actually teaching you the correct way to eat  . . . FOR A LIFETIME.  Don’t let the 2 nights kickstart a consistent habit where ‘cheating’ becomes the rule, not the occasional exception — unless you’re looking to end up right back where you started.  Once in a while for the rest of your life probably won’t kill your progress; ‘On a regular basis’ will leave you spinning your wheels at the starting gate.

When on a program, ‘strict’ is the way to go in my opinion, but as long as you recognize your power of choice, as well as the factors that go along with those choices, there’s no harm in enjoying yourself.  Sure, you might take 1 or 2 days longer to reach your objectives.  In the grand scheme of life, that’s no big deal, right?

Detoxifcation educates you and starts you on the path to lifelong health and improved function.  Inner Peace, brought by living a life that’s aligned with your innermost desires will unleash the happiness that resides in you . . . and KEEP you on that path.

Enjoy Your Holidays!
