Q: I am a 20 year old guy from England and I started training at the beginning of the year, and had a raging passion for improving my health and fitness, along with a great interest in the Fitness Industry itself. But after 4-5 months I am finding myself very confused about what to do, which has resulted in a major lack of motivation and loss of passion for it all. The one thing that is currently keeping me going is reading and listening to you on the fitcast. You are a very inspiring individual to me, you seem to know alot, and put in 100% of your effort to learn and understand everything and anything you can within the industry. I wish that I could know and be as self motivated as you are! Hopefully one day I can get back on track and do it!
Would there be any tips or help, books, websites, communities, things that I could learn from and meet like-minded people so that I feel more motivated to train again. Not having alot of support around my in life has taken its toll. And I would really like to be able to find people that I could talk to about training, people that would actually be interested in talking about the same things that I am interested in.
A: I always wanted to be in human performance and when I got out of college and decided that I was going to go for it full time I just knew that I wanted to be the best. Nothing but the best. Get that in your mind and never let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Become obsessed with being nothing but the best. Bookstores and libraries are free, spend your Friday and Saturday nights there. You may miss one of your drunk friends stumbling down the stairs but you'll have more money in your pocket and set yourself up for more success. Train your clients, go home and work on becoming the smartest person that you can be.
That's how I did it, I became obsessed and don't ever let anyone tell you that you are doing too much. When they tell you that then do more.
Go to every seminars that you can afford to within a few hours of you. I'm on the east coast so I'm lucky that there are a few seminars around my area but anytime there's a big fitness seminar in your area then attend it.
Never think of education as an expense. Only as a way to get better. It's not what the book will cost you to read but what will not reading it cost you?
