You know what I found out as a guy training women?
When it comes to a woman’s body they want INSTANT gratification.
And most are even willing to try anything…even starving themselves.
You’ve probably even thought about yourself. If you starve yourself you’ll for sure lose weight even faster…it just makes sense right? “I won’t eat so I wont get fat”.
In terms of weight loss, this is a load of crap, and instead of becoming thin you’ll actually see the opposite – weight gain!
Here’s why you need to eat to lose weight.
On a basic level, the foods you eat end up being, carbohydrates, protein, and fats.
When you eat carbs it’s stored in your liver and muscles in clumps of glucose molecules known as glycogen. What’s important is that the liver supply is a reserve that helps to maintain your blood glucose level, which is the essential source for the brain and nervous tissue. Your body also uses that same muscle glycogen to fuel high intensity exercise bouts.
Once the carbs are used up your body relies on fat as the next form of fuel. You store fat under your skin, around your organs and in your muscles. The fat in your muscle is used for lower–intensity, long-duration activities. Another important fact about fat is that the fat underneath your skin (adipose tissue) can be transported to working muscles and be used as fuel – which means you can use the ugly fat and burn it off in your workouts.
Proteins help rebuild damaged tissue. When working out you only use about 5-10% of protein for energy.
So if you’re made up of these elements, would starving yourself be beneficial?
…I don’t think so!
So what happens to your body from starving yourself?
From reading the above you now know that your body stores fat. When you don’t eat your body goes into “starvation mode” and holds on to every single piece of energy it can get to allow your body to function properly.
If you don’t eat nutritious meals consistently your body will store the fat.
Can you see where this is leading?
If your body is always in “starvation mode” you’ll gain weight and your body will not be able to function like it should. It’s a viscous cycle of starving yourself and gaining weight and ultimately you will end up doing more harm than good.
BOTTOM LINE: Eat nutritious foods and workout at least 3 times a week to lose weight and keep it off permanently. I know , I know…easier said than done but delaying the gratification makes the taste of victory that much sweeter when you’ve reached your goal.
Enjoy your week,
Marci
