Burn fat and get fit playing with your kettlebells

Posted Aug 24 2008 3:49pm

Kettlebells are probably the most versatile tool for burning fat and getting in shape available today. The key to continuing to burn fat is to keep the body guessing and you can do that with the same pair of kettlebells over the long haul but only if you keep mixing up the workouts. You have to be creative to do this and really play with your kettlebells instead of being regimented and "working out" all serious every time.

I recommend taking your kettlebell outside into nature. Maybe carry it there for extra caloric effect instead of driving. Then, make up and exercise out of nowhere. That's right, just make up and exercise and start playing around with it for fun! You will be surprised how many calories your burn "playing"; you'll know you burned calories because two hours later you will be hot and hungry, VERY good signs of a quality workout.

Today I thought up Kettlebell split jerks. I hold the kettlebell in the racked position at the shoulder. Then drop down into a lunge while jerking the kettlebell overhead quickly. I never stop moving in this drill so basically I pop down into the lunge then jump back up, standing to attention. The kettlebell drives up as I drop down and drops down as I jump up. It is a funny exercise to watch but really gets the heart and lungs working like crazy.

The other crazy exercise I did today was one I learned on www.youtube.com called the kettlebell one legged swing. Stand on one leg, then swing the kettlebell outside the leg like a normal swing. It should look like you are bowling as you swing the kettlebell back and forth.

After the fun exercises I did a lot of kettlebell swings, cleans and inchworms to finish off the workout. It was a great little workout that burned a ton of calories but was also fun as hell! So get out there, grab your kettlebells and have some fun!
