Body by Bethenny Exercise DVD Giveaway

Body by Bethenny  Workout Details

Bethenny Frankel, natural food chef, star of  The Real Housewives of New York City, and New York Times bestselling author of  Naturally Thin  and  The Skinnygirl Dish has added workout DVD to her list.    Body by Bethenny, released by Acacia on May 4, 2010 is the first workout featuring the author and reality TV star.  The 55-minute workout consists of a 40-minute yoga routine, a 10-minute arm toner and a 5-minute booty blast.  You have the option to play the workout in its entirety or select a particular segment.  Equipment needed for the workout includes a light set of dumbbells and a yoga mat.  As with all Acacia workouts, a bonus section is included on the DVD.  Bonus features include a cooking segment, Bethenny Frankel biography, Kristin McGee biography and segment from two previously released Acacia workouts,  Core Fusion Pure Arms & Abs  and  Pilates for Beginners.  Also included is a DVD insert with sample recipes from  The Skinnygirl Dish.

Body by Bethenny  Workout Review

After being asked several times from her fans what she does for exercise, Bethenny, along with yoga and pilates instructor Kristin McGee, have put together this workout to show what Bethenny does to keep her slim figure.  In the workout, Bethenny is a participant while Kristin leads the workout. 

The yoga portion of the workout begins with three series of sun salutations, from prayer to chattarunga, upward dog to downward dog and back to prayer.  From here Kristin begins adding on poses such as warrior 2 and reverse warrior to the sun salutations.  Her toughest sequence begins with chair pose and then moves through the various warrior poses, triangle, side angle, half moon and standing splits.  The sequence is completed on one side before repeating it on the other side.  Then the final standing pose is tree.  The yoga portion concludes on the floor with pigeon, boat, bridge, backbends, shoulder stand and plow.

The strength training section of the workout consists of two circuits.  The first circuit includes twelve repetitions of three exercises – side lateral raises, biceps curl and bent over rows.  This circuit is done twice.  The second circuit includes front shoulder raises, triceps kickbacks and overhead presses.  Again two sets of twelve repetitions are performed.

The last section of the workout is the five minute booty bonus.  Bethenny and Kristin perform a set of rear leg lifts and side leg lifts.  This is followed by a set of squats.  The entire sequence is then repeated on the other side again followed by a set of squats.

Overall, this DVD offers a nice, strength-based yoga routine.  Though I am not much of a yoga person, I understand the importance of including it regularly in my fitness routine.  I like that this workout offers the benefits of yoga while also adding on a bit of strength and an extra butt burn.  Kristen & Bethenny have a great rapport and chemistry together.  Kristin does a wonderful job throughout the workout offering encouragement, form pointers and great cueing.
