Be your own drug pusher..... exercise

Two groundbreaking books are taking the exercise community by storm... "Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain" (by John Ratey) and "The Athlete's Way: Sweat and the Biology of Bliss" (by Christopher Bergland) both tout the medicinal mental benefits of exercise. In the Ratey book, who is a Harvard professor of psychiatry, he states that blood flow is shifted back to the brain after exercise. This post workout blood is full of neurotransmitters and growht factors that allow us to feel great and really motivate us to pursue whatever we want. The Bergland book takes a practical, athlete's perspective and shows how his personal account of taking medications for depression in his teenage years was basically relinquished after he got involved with exercise.
