Be IN The Moment To Burn Fat!

Posted Aug 23 2008 3:01pm 1 Comment

woman on bike working One of my biggest pet peeves is watching people in the gym, either on the phone, texting or reading a magazine! How can they get in a good fat burning workout while doing those things? You need to be IN the moment while you are working out or its just a waste of time.

With all of the quick and effective ways of burning fat, such as using supersets with strength training and intervals on the cardio equipment, you should not be doing any workout longer than 20-30 minutes. That is the time you need to be taking to focus on your goals, your body, your muscles and how you feel! Not texting your friends, reading the lastest gossip on your favorite star or talking to your friends! The talking on the phone is the most annoying. Do you think that other people in the gym want to listen to you chat with your buddy for 20 minutes? HELL NO!

When I am training my clients, I am always asking them to tell me where on their body do they feel the exercise we are currently doing. If they are not feeling it in the muscle they should be, we need to correct it and have them focus on feeling that muscle. They get such a better workout when they are aware of the muscles they are using.

I do have to admit I have gone to do my workouts, had so much on my mind, that I finished forgetting what I had even done! That was not a workout. My body did not feel like it had even worked out. Now I always make sure to focus on the muscle I want to form, tone, build or the fat I want to lose. I walk away from that workout sore and tired, and thats what a good workout SHOULD feel like!

Are YOU in the moment when working out?

Totally agree about the phones - the only people who should be allowed phones in the gym is those who work there!

However, I would make an exception for those chatting if they are doing their prescribed fat-burning work. This can often be very boring (and sometimes as low at 115bpm) so anything that will get my clients doing it is good!
