Backpack Running

Posted Nov 29 2008 12:26pm 2 Comments
There is some sort of new underground backpack running cult forming right beneath our noses. Members of this cult apparently have been going undetected to the naked eye and to the public for sometime now. Even to me!

This whole thing was brought to my attention while I was hanging out with a buddy today. My friend and I were having our usual conversation of quantum physics, electrical engineering, and the Spice Girls - when he randomly asked me if I noticed guys running with backpacks. I thought he might have been mistaken for hydration packs that endurance runners/athletes wear, but he was swears they were backpacks.

I told him that he was crazy and that I wouldn't believe it until I saw it for myself. Well, wouldn't you know it. As we were sitting outside of a restaurant @ 11:00pm and this 'dude' comes running by with a backpack on. No lie, couldn't believe it.

So was this 'dude' purposely using a backpack filled with stuff to increase the difficulty of his run or was he...
  • really really really  late for work
  • trying to catch an imaginary bus
  • escaping police after shoplifting something or
  • trying to get home before his constipation medication kicked in
If running with a backpack exists, is its growing popularity just a big male-ego thing? Are guys thinking that if that 'dude' can run with a backpack, they are going to as well. What's next?

Has anyone else noticed backpack running or know about it?
Please send me what you got!
