A small but growing number of companies and employees are investing in some nontraditional office furniture, namely, a treadmill instead of a chair. These walkstations allow workers to walk it out at slow speeds while they talk on the phone, respond to e-mails and generally just work. While many people with desk jobs might have trouble doing this much multitasking, it is pretty interesting and even a 2 mph can burn a couple of extra 100 calories an hour. Because I have a desk day job myself, this sounds awesome. Although, for the record, I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone craft TPS reports.
Employer not ready to add treadmills to its list of office furniture quite yet? It's no excuse not to get in some activity. See our two-part office get-fit guide here and here.
If you suffer from exercise-induced asthma in chilly weather then there's a decent chance that you don't sweat a lot, researchers recently learned. You may also produce less saliva and tears than most people. They believe that the low levels of moisture in the body and in the cold air may contribute to the lungs' airwaves being dry and inflamed, and therefore can cause asthma when exercising in cold weather.
As someone who has been known to drip buckets in July on the tennis court and needs 18 tissues when watching A Walk in the CloudsonTBS, this obviously isn't an issue affecting me, but it is interesting.
