acute wheezing during high intensity sprints are caused by what if not asthma?

Posted by jac155

A recent onset of acute wheezing has been occurring after a warm up run followed by series of 6-9 high intensity hill sprints, resulting in the body almost convulsing due to the inability to get enough oxygen into the lungs. This only started 2 weeks ago, the person is very fit, completed Ironman Lake Placid last year and has been training since october for the upcoming event in July. These symptoms do not occur during steady state exercise.
