Today is such an awesome and unique day for those of us in the good ole USA. We are swearing in our first African-American president for the second time in our 57th Presidential Inauguration and this is also the year of the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s march on Washington and the actual day that we celebrate his life and legacy on MLK Day.
The significance that these events culminate on the same day and in the same space is really just mindboggling. While we remember one who was slain for his beliefs and determination to achieve justice, we celebrate the victory of another who is the result of the efforts of many to bring justice to people of color in this nation.
I was just a small child during the Civil Rights movement of the 60’s, but my mother, a strong and courageous Black woman taught me that I was “just as good” as any White person. Now, mind you, I didn’t even know what she was talking about or why I had to embrace such a sentiment, but because she said it with such passion, I had no choice not only to believe it, but to live it to the fullest.
I encourage you to do the same, Live Life to the fullest. It doesn’t matter your color, political party or sexual orientation, life is to be lived.
That includes your weight loss journey. Do the best you can and strive to be the best person you can be. Realize that there will be ups and downs, good times and bad times, but in the end, just know that you will be successful.
