500 Festival Mini-Marathon Training Series 10k or Knock, Knock? Anyone Home?

Posted Mar 05 2011 12:00am

Saturday was the 35th running of the Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the first time the hubs ran a half-marathon. We started out slow (aka weaving around all of the walkers) and tried to pick it up by finishing in 2:44:04!  Pretty good for his first half and just starting out running!

My stats:

I felt like an awesome running jerk because I could be "that guy" who complains that the course is too long due to my garmin measuring the course long. Never mind that weaving around everyone for the whole race adds that much to the course!

Important things learned from my garmin this race: OMG I CAN RUN AT A FAIRLY CONSISTENT PACE!  Also miles where I took GU (other than mile 9) I ended up being able to make up my time quicker.  I find that running with my garmin I'm more consistent during a race and am able to keep my pacing due to keeping an eye on my average pace.  I was really proud of us keeping up a consistent pace and meeting our goal of a 12:30 pace average!

How have you found to get better at running at an average pace?
