21 Tips for Overall Health & Well-Being

Posted Dec 22 2009 12:00am
Tip #8: Take the stairs, as often as you can. Just um, consider wearing shoes, OK?

Hi Guys! So, I have a friend, Eliana, who recently asked me if I could give her any tips to help her start taking care of her body and her well-being in general. Some of them are more silly than others...I came up with 21; and I think I need to do a better job of following them myself. Check them out:

1. Sleep. Aim for at least 7 hours a day.

2. Drink water—lots of it!

3. Have breakfast, everyday.

4. Do your hair.

5. Take an honest look at yourself in the mirror and decide what you want to work on the most—arms, abs, butt?

6. Then make an exercise plan; and be realistic. How much time are you willing to devote to exercise? 3x a week is better than nothing!

7. Keep a food journal for a couple of weeks to see what your eating patterns are like. Decide what you need more of and what you need to eliminate from your diet, then go food shopping. With a list of course!

8. Take the stairs, as often as you can.

9. Give yourself permission to eat that piece of chocolate or cookie without feeling guilty.

10. Buy some fitness clothes you really like. Keep a set laid out or in your gym bag, ready to go.

11. Get a manicure from time to time.

12. When you need extra motivation, find a fitness buddy to work out with for a period of time.

13. Learn how to listen to your body and take a break when you really need one, even if it means saying no to people from time to time. (Yes, I said, say no!)

14. Schedule in time to goof off with friends over a cup of coffee.

15. Walk, if the weather permits. Take your time and explore a different route home from work or on a weekend.

16. Pack lunch, as often as you can. Or at least a couple of snacks everyday.

17. Have green tea--it's good for you!

18. Read a book, for fun!

19. Eat lots of green stuff. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, salad greens…

20. Figure out what your least favorite exercise is and then make it your goal to master it.

21. Take time out everyday to be silent, and to pray.

What's your favorite tip? And do you have any to add to the list for overall health and well-being? Please share!
