1/5 Workout: Steady State Cardio

Posted Jan 06 2010 10:40pm

high-intensity-interval-trainingI actually did this workout yesterday, but then forgot to post it. Yesterday was the very first time I have ever attempted to do a cardio workout first thing in the morning. My husband was working and my mother-in-law was watching our little people (the kids<3) for us during the day so I tried to get as much done as possible.

Wow. Running in the morning was very difficult for me. I wanted it to end before I reached the 6 minute mark! I don’t know how people can do that. I felt like I was running in my sleep. The great thing about it though was that by 8:30 in the morning I had my workout complete and was showered and ready for the day. That alone might be worth it, but MAN was it hard for me. It felt like I was running forever…

Cardio Workout

  • 2 minute warm-up @ 4 mph
  • 15 minute jog @ 5.5 mph
  • 1 minute walking break @ 4 mph
  • 15 minute jog @ 5.5 mph
  • 9 minute cool-down @ 4 mph
  • 1 minute jog @ 5.5 mph

Total Time: 43 minutes

Total Distance: 3.63 miles

Total Calories Burned: 428

I attempted to start running again because I felt a burst of energy but it ended up being short lived because my knee really started to hurt for some reason. I’m thinking I might need to invest in an ellitipcal machine because treadmills are so hard on the knees. I think it actually stems back to when I played soccer, but it hasn’t bothered me up until now. So who knows.

Oh, and another fun fact. I’m pretty sure I gained a little bit of weight over the holidays because I could feel some extra jiggliness on my backside. NEAT.
