Is this a Seizure?

Posted by dwilliams423

My dad is 67 years old.  He has had two "episodes".  We think that they may be seizures, but aren't sure.  Thankfully my mom has been with him both times, so he was not alone and so that someone besides himself can give information about what happened.

The first time was when my mom had to go to the emergency room for extreme abdominal pain.  She ended up having a uterine fibroid and got a partial hysterectomy a few weeks later.  While he was in the emergency room with her he told her that he felt like he was going to pass out and then he leaned over the bed and as my mom says, started shaking.  He also lost control of his bladder.  She said that his eyes got real wide and his mouth was open like he was trying to say something.  He says he doesn't remember the event after telling my mom that he felt like he was going to pass out.

The second time was on the airplane.  My mom and dad were going to Texas to visit relatives and it happened again.  My mom said it didn't seem as bad this time and he didn't lose control of his bladder.

He is being seen by a cardiologist for high blood pressure and a gastroenterologist for colitis/Crohn's.  He is on medications for these issues as well as some antidepressants and multivitamins.

He has an appointment next week to see the cardiologist again to check his carotid.  The cardiologist suggested that he see a neurologist for these "episodes".  His appointment with the neurologist is next week.

What do you think it is?  Seizure, stroke?

Thanks in advance for any advice given!
