My boyfriend is scheduled to have a colonoscopy, he is also an epileptic. His seizures occur when he is asleep. Are there any medicines we should be concerned about during preparation or during the actual procedures, so he doesn't have a seizure(s), during or after this procedure?
He should follow the advise of his neurologist regarding his medication and having the procedure done. He will be under anesthesia, which could lower the seizure threshold. However, most anestheiologists are well prepared for any ontoward sign of a seizure and can manage it while the person is sleeping without any problems. Just be sure to tell his MD's and the anesthesiologist about his epilepsy, medications, and if he had his medication on the day of the procedure.
