can marijuana cause seizures

my boyfriend was coughing the other night and had a seizure he had never in his life had one before...he was smoking marijuana and has asthma really bad..that was why he was coughing.. he does not remember this but i saw it all..he just said he couldnt breath that he died for a second..he thought
