Am I having seizures?

Posted by Scarlett

I have a chiari malformation and the surgery to relieve the pressure on the cerebellum. Since then, I have developed involuntary body movements, episodes involving loss of consciousness, mental confusion, loss of time and memory. This occurs day and night, even during sleep. After an episode, I am very tired and sleepy. I have had MRI's, EEG's, CT scans, and extensive EEG monitoring. The MD's tell me that while I am having classic symptoms of seizures, no seizures have been detected on EEG's. I have recently been given a diagnosis of pseudoseizures, which has me puzzled, frustrated, and feeling like I have been blown off. I was only monitored for one night and they did not complete all of the testing during the EEG (hyperventilation and strobe lights) so I don't feel I can rely on the accuracy of the diagnosis. What should I do? I still have the symptoms and I cannot drive, etc. until I have been seizure-free (symptom-free) for 6 months.
