Today was a lovely spring day. I googletalked Alex from work and told him we should go to the city park after work and have a small picnic. He brought drinks and then we went to get falafels to take with us. We spent quite a bit of time checking out some of the crafting stores in Lund because we needed to get some supplies for our paper crafting. Alex has spent most of this afternoon (and most of yesterday) making a paper teddy bear complete with movable arms and legs and head. He printed the instructions and the actual parts of Canons site with free paper crafts. It’s adorable. It took him ten billion years to cut out all the little pieces, glue them togheter and assemble the entire thing. I don’t have that kind of patience at all so I stick to crafting little paper gift bags, or fold envelopes.

Well, seeing how we’ve spent today in the park, in stores and then crafting with paper, I really didn’t make that risotto I was going to. Tomorrow! .. perhaps. Instead I spent some time making sushi for my lunch tomorrow and for munching on tonight. I didn’t have many good fillings at home, so this is Poor Girl’s Sushi. It tastes absolutely lovely though, I’ve finally managed to get that mix of rice vinegar, sugar, salt and mirin right.
Poor girl’s sushi has some cucumber, pepper and leek filling. not the most exciting filling in the world, but at least the rice tastes lovely! I even managed to get my inside-out-roll to look nice. That’s a first for me!
Sushi dressing for rice:
200 ml (7 fl oz) rice vinegar
125 ml (4½ fl oz)sugar
1½ tsp salt
2 tbsp mirin
Mix together until the sugar has dissolved completely. Bottle and keep in the fridge! Use about 50 ml (1.75 fl oz) of this for every 100 ml (3½ fl oz) of uncooked rice you make. (Don’t add it until after the rice is cooked though ;p )
