TIaRT – acting as Race Director, for The Biggest Loser

Posted Oct 01 2009 11:01pm

Welcome to TIaRT in the Runners Lounge, I’m your host for the week!

Think about this…..

If you had the knowledge, time and/or means by which to Organize a race – what would your “Race Info” include?  Would you chose an organization to donate to? What distance would you choose? Other questions to ponder – Location? Time? Race Expo attendees (guest speakers?)? Shirt design? Get as creative as you want….!

The last episode of Season 7 for The Biggest Loser included a Marathon. It was something set up entirely for the final contestants; they had no “crowd support” or race volunteers or even a Race Expo. They DID have cameras following them, an official timer, and Race Bibs (I loved this part, it seems more “real” with that bib pinned on!).

I fell in love with this idea!

And I thought….. I would sign up for that! In a heartbeat. I would Love to run with the final contestants; I would love to see Bob and Jillian somewhere along the course screaming and encouraging the runners; I would love to be surrounded by people who were inspired by the show to come out there and challenge themselves to those 26.2 miles.

The wheels started turning…

If I could create ANY race, this would be it:
The Biggest Loser Full and Half Marathon
+ 5K walk/run for families (so kids can join too!)

Details:

  • Run with former contestants! meet-n-greets after (Obviously just for those who want to participate)
  • Sign up for Training Plans – getting tips from Bob & Jillian throughout the Season
  • Receive Diet/Fueling tips and recipes from the Dietitian
(….me?! I’d be up for it!)
  • Join the online community of people across the country who are registered – group chats, message boards, etc to see how everything is coming along, coordinate meet ups, share ideas/experiences/trials, create virtual “challenges”, etc.
  • Train throughout the Season as you watch the contestants get closer to their goals too!
  • Donations would be made to organizations that battle Childhood Obesity & Promoting Activity – Athletes for Hope, Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Girls on the Run, Health Corps ……the list goes on!

This is just another way for TBL to become interactive with its viewers; people All over the country already compete in their own challenges and send in their stories. They team up with coworkers, friends or family to challenge themselves to make lifestyles changes such as the ones we see on the ranch. I love seeing and hearing about those stories just as much as the ones we’re watching unfold. This would be another accomplishment to add to their list!

Would you sign up for the “ Biggest Loser Marathon “?

Join me! ;)
