There may not have been a Lot of running in the last 7 days, but there were some interesting Discoveries…..

Hey hey Tuesday, whats goin’ on?

******

Thumbs UP!

New CLIF Bar Flavor – Blueberry Crisp: Well, this was an ‘accident’. I thought I grabbed a PB flavor, and in the checkout line I was like “Uh, what’s this?!…..eh, whateva! Trial time.”. There were no high expectations (blueberry?! ……). Turns out? I LOVED it.

New TLC Kashi bar Flavor – Dark Mocha Almond: Anything “Dark chocolate” calls to me. Throw in a hint of coffee and I’m ALL In. This was a little “strong” on the flavor side, but I’d buy them again.

Back to the Old Shoes: With the lower shin/ankle/foot pain I’ve had recently, something needed to change. Sunday I tried Mizunos, and that was a success but uh, they weren’t mine! Last night, during the group run I whipped out my old Nikes; this changed everything! My feet and shins felt fine, my stride felt normal again, and I had a great run.

Taking it down for a week: Last week was definitely one “Ugh” moment aftera nother. Unmotivated, a  little sore (from…?!), tired, and testing out a new schedule? Not a good combination. But this time around I really feel ready to get into training (half-m comin’ up!) and settling into this daily routine.

Starting Monday with an Easy 4-miles, accompanied by the group, around DC always helps…..I finally found an EASY pace on my own last night. A friend with a Garmin even said “We’re doing about an 8:30 pace” and I thought “FINALLY!”. For the first time in a while, I felt good during the entire run, and busted out my usual Faster mile/Sprint at the end successfully. I know this, because my iPod Stopwatch tells me so. ;)

Total (Monday run): 4.3 miles ~35:00 avg 8:16 min/mile pace
(I did the last mile in ~7:55 – throwing off the “average” a little bit…)

**********

Uh, FAIL

Stability Shoes ( for me ):I wandered around a Running Store the other day while cooling off after my run. The foot/shin pain I’ve had recently was frustrating, so I was looking at shoes and contemplating options. I saw a sign breaking down shoe recommendations based off of your Arch (nothing new, just not something I’ve read in a Long time!). Guess what a high/medium arch (i.e. ME!) needs?

NEUTRAL Shoes.

Oh. Well. No wonder.

Next time around I’m ignoring the fact that I “Slightly overpronate”; and paying more attention to my foot type. I want Neutral and My inserts; my feet will be much happier. For now? I’m debating how long you can have a running shoe before returning it and feeling kind of like a jerk…..

What did You try this week??
