These red, juicy tomatoes are from my garden. The jalapenos tucked in the center? Those, too. I feel like I have the prize pig at the county fair, I'm so proud. There were moments of doubt, and impatience, but now the giant plants have countless tomatoes on them, plus new yellow flowers ready to begin their transformation into fruit.
Now, it's time to plan for our abundance of tomatoes. Last night was a simple caprese salad with basil (also from the garden), mozzarella cheese, and a healthy pour of balsamic vinegar. Later this week, I'll show you the recipe we've been using for homemade pasta sauce. There are plans for homemade pizza with sliced tomatoes, a tomato and cheese tart, tomatoes provencals, and I'm still stuck on the idea of making ketchup. We'll have tomatoes well into October. Success never tasted so sweet.
