One of the things I’m rediscovering this year is just how much fun running and racing can be. It’s not that I wasn’t enjoying myself when I was busting my butt and watching old PRs fall right before my knee gave out on me, but it’s very different from the “fun” I’m looking for now. Now? I know that I’m not yet fit enough to touch those old records, so I’m just enjoying the running for what it is. I honestly hadn’t even realized it until I ran the Rock & Roll half last month and got to experience, for the first time in years, what it was like to run a race with absolutely no time pressure whatsoever.
I’m not going to lie – it was kind of liberating.
This is all a roundabout way in saying that I’m choosing my races a little differently this year. Instead of looking for events where I can run fast or really challenge myself in some way (terrain, distance, etc), I’m looking for races that just seem like fun. Which is why the CMY5K caught my eye when I got an email from them a few weeks ago. The premise is very similar to that of The Color Runs that are making the rounds: you don a white t-shirt, and as you run/walk/jog through the 5k course, you get pelted with a different color at every kilometer maker. The end result? Thousands of walking works of art.
This is exactly the sort of race that’s up my alley this summer. It’s different. It doesn’t really matter how fast I run it. And for those reasons, it’s why I think you should run it, too. Especially if you’re working on tackling your first race. Running through a wall of color every kilometer seems like a great way to celebrate your progress, if you ask me.
The event will be coming to Seattle on August 11. You could register online for $40… or you could enter below for a chance to win a free entry for you and a friend. Yes, two of you will get to run for free, so the friend/roommate/significant other you plan on dragging into the fun with you will have absolutely no reason to refuse.
You can’t tell me that this doesn’t look like fun
How do you enter? Simply leave a comment below telling me who you’d bring to the race with you. That’s it.
Want some bonus entries? You can do one (or both!) of the following:
