Planning an Event

Posted by Brian J.

I really want to plan a fundraiser event and have it be active...but I do not know how to get started. Does anyone know of any good organizations or people to contact who can help me find a venue and such...?

Team In Training?. Hi Brian, If you're looking to do an active fund raiser, I'd suggest either a Team in Training event (run, ride, triathlon, XC ski), an Aids Foundation Walk, a Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America "Guts & Glory Walks & Runs" , or one of the many others out there set up to raise money for this or that medical condition. I know lots of people who have done Team In Training Runs, rides, or triathlons and really enjoyed the experience. TNT helps you with the fundraising (each participant generally raises around $3000), gives you a coach, a team to train with, and holds your hand as you train & compete in your event. David
but if it's your own event.... I'd still suggest calling TNT and maybe they can give you guidance. If you're looking for bar, club, theater, etc. to host an fund-raising event, I'd be sure that it fits your goal. For example, if you're going to do an auction, make sure the place has good acoustics and won't require the entire audience to be quiet durring the auction. Nothing kills the fun of the event like the MC trying to "Shhh!" the audience so that the auction can be heard.
It's great that you want to raise money to help a cause. Which are you interested in supporting? Perhaps someone from the organization you want to raise funds for can help get you started on planning a fundraiser, or point you in the direction of an event that you can help organize.
