Nike Human Race

Posted Sep 07 2008 2:03am
I have been lurking this blog for several months now, not wanting to post until after my first race, well I finally did it! I ran my first 10k last night. I'd rather not post my time because, frankly, it wasn't good. But after months of terrible shin splints and almost backing out of the race at the last minute I'm really just thrilled that I finished. Last night was the Nike Human Race, a race run in 25 cities around the world with a projected 1 million runners. I live in Seattle, but since there wasn't a race here I chose to run the Vancouver, BC race. I have to say, it was one of the most exhilirating experiences of my life. The amount of people there was unreal, everyone was so excited to be there, running in this historical run. It was truly amazing. My husband decided at the last minute to register and run with me, which turned out to be really helpful. The shin splits have really been a major setback the last few months and his support was much needed. Every time I wanted to quit he just pushed me that much further. We came in almost at the end (laugh all you want, I did!) hand in hand. It was fabulous!! I can hardly move today, but as soon as the pain subsides, which I hope is soon, I'll be back at it. Next up is a fun run called the Brew Ha-Ha, a 5k in Fremont in celebration of Oktoberfest. I'm looking forward to it, and after the 10k, this one should be a breeze.

The crowd, waiting for go time:

Almost there, crossing the Burrard St. Bridge, very tired:

Finally finished:
