Well I have to say I wish we had a third choice for President. Neither candidate was impressive or seems to truly understand our economic problems today. There's no thinking out of the box. Both candidates are true to their party and not the American people. There's a candidate who just uses the word change but its not really change. I was amused by the health care segment. The candidates do not have an understanding of our health care system. Senator Obama was incorrect about couple of issues concerning our health care system. First, was he saying electronic medical records would some how lower a person's insurance premium. I don't think so, plus I would say a good majority of our major hospital already have a electronic medical records system. The electronic medical record system might lower the physician's professional liability but not the patient's insurance payments. Also patients will still have to complete intake paperwork, patient's personal information changes and medical histories are part of the physician's evaluation and management coding. Obama and McCain were correct with establishing Preventive or Wellness programs which will help lower insurance rates. Our clinicians need to start establishing wellness programs into their practices and promote a healthy life style to their patients. A wellness revolution has started, mostly by non-physicians. We need medical schools to teach prevention/wellness to their students not just disease. Senator Obama was not correct with the statement " insurance companies will go to states where certain laws are in their flavor such as pre-existing conditions. Well, first it does not matter where the insurance company is incorporated. The insurance companies have to follow the laws and regulations where the consumer lives. Another important fact to remember, the employer decides upon the the type of policy and options of the policy. Each level of staff and management could also have different policies. Senator McCain idea of free market with health care system is a good idea, the problem is we need to have oversight of the insurance industry. The insurance industry is the only industry that can pay their bills anywhere from 60 - over 150 days or not pay at all. A government or universal health insurance policy will not improve the health care system, if anything it probably will lead to more corruption. We need to improve our system not throw it away. The improvements are needed on the clinical, insurance and consumer side. It can be done but in the free market. In the coming week I will examine Senator Obama and McCain's health care policy. I will also give my opinion of how we can improve our health care system, which could lead to affordable insurance premiums paid by the consumer.
