The cupcake trend? Not news. These beautiful little cakes with their fancy frosting and festive adornments have graced us for years now. Or, for those of us gluten-free people, taunted us for years now. I find myself pressing my nose against the pane of glass, longingly gazing at a gluten filled cupcake that I will never be able to waltz in and purchase, licking my fingers as I devour the perfect sized snack. Sure, there have been some ingenious dedicated gluten free bakeries like Crave in San Francisco that have engineered the perfect GF treat, but they're frozen. And not in a cutesie cupcake shop like Hello Cupcake! in DC.
I went on a cupcake date with two girlfriends (and a meeting of mommies to be, but that was a coincidence) to Hello Cupcake in DC during my East Coast extravaganza. Two of us had the GF carrot cake cupcake and raved over the amazing texture and decadent cream cheese frosting. Our non GF friend had the regular carrot cake cupcake and declared ours the winner. This fabulous cupcake shop always has a GF selection and the flavor changes frequently. Now, if only some cupcake shops in SF had a gluten free selection, I wouldn't have to be asked to take my grubby fingers off of their shop window.
