Brooks Adrenaline: Adding another shoe to my running rotation

I’ve said here before many times that I began my running career in nothing but Brooks shoes : Beast, Adrenaline, Ghost, and later the Brooks Launch. I ran the first of my six marathons in the Adrenalines and those shoes carried me to my marathon PR, a 3:36 in Dallas in 2009.
As my stride got more efficient and I needed less and less support, I stopped wearing the Brooks Adrenaline because they put too much pressure on my hips.
And so since last year, January 2010 actually, I’ve been running basically in neutral shoes. I ran the Chicago Marathon in Adidas Bostons, and I ran the Austin Marathon in Brooks Launch.
I said goodbye to the Brooks Adrenalines forever. And after that, I also said goodbye to the Brooks Launch – a neutral shoe that was too much cushion for me.
After coming back from my pelvis stress fracture, I slipped back into my Adidas Bostons and continued training.
But the thing I love about the Adidas Bostons (lightweight, very responsive) are the same things I hate about the Adidas Bostons. My legs really take a pounding in these shoes. Even when running slow and taking it easy, I couldn’t shake some nagging leg pains/stiffness/soreness.
Last Sunday, I pulled my Adrenalines out of the closet and decided to use them for a recovery run: Ahhhh. It was like my feet were saying hello to an old friend. The run was nice and easy and my legs and feet appreciated the support.
I’ve run in the Adrenalines a few other times since – and its been kinda what the doctor ordered.
I’m going to still continue to do most of my runs in the Adidas Bostons, but I’m bringing back the Adrenalines. The medial posting provides just enough support to give my legs a break and let them recover from the pounding they take while wearing the Adidas Bostons.
