beaming

Posted Nov 06 2009 10:01pm

I left early for the group run last night. I stopped by Target to return a dress before getting on the Metro (yes, Target is RIGHT BY the Metro!). I caved; I bought a headlamp.

Agh! Daylight Savings Time ( and Target ) – what are you doing to me?!
Now, I beam as I run. Literally. There is a very bright light (which can be red, if I choose that option for that night) leading the way.

All dressed in my new colder weather-running gear, headlamp in hand (oh No, that is not going on my head!), it felt like the fall/winter has officially set in. I could’ve taken this route at my own pace, since I could see on my own this time. But, I’ve realized that these group runs are great for a little Tempo work. My front-runner buddies usually head out at a 7:30-8:00 pace. Maybe I can’t be very social/chatty with them, but I can keep up!

8:04 – 7:50 – 7:41 – 7:29 – 7:21 (0.2) – 4:58 (0.15 – Sprint!)

4.35- 33:05 @ 7:40 min/mile avg

Ending the week on that note, heading into a 10-12 miler on Saturday! I like that I’m maintaining a good base for marathon training (T-minus 3 weeks!!!), and that I get a good Looong run in before sitting down to watch Football all afternoon! BIG GAME this weekend! PSU vs. Ohio State – Let’s Go State!

ANSWERS!

1) Who are the two founders of Google? Larry Page & Sergey Brin (impressive, Lace!)

2) What is the one food least likely to cause an allergy? Rice!

3) How did Charles Rolls (of Rolls Royce) die? He was the first to fly non-stop across the English Channel both ways. He was also Britain’s first aircraft fatality. Ah, he might be the first case against automobile vs airline safety.
Sad day.

3) How many ounces is considered ONE serving of (most) meat? 4 oz! Think twice about that 12 oz steak next time.

5) Who is the world’s most successful postumous celebrity?Yves Saint Laurent. Yah. Who knew?!

6) In reference to daily intake, what does the acronym U.L. stand for? What does it represent? {Tolerable} Upper Limit. This refers to the amount of any one nutrient that the body can absorb/use before it has a toxic effect (i.e. for Vitamin A = 10,000 IU). Not all nutrients have a UL (i.e. Vitamin K); most water soluble vitamins get excreted/transported/dissolved quickly through normal body function.

7)Who is the only president to serve two nonconsecutive terms?
Grover Cleveland

8 ) What is the most abundant mineral in the body? Calcium

9) Which ammendment granted women the right to vote?
19th (You know your history, J!)

10) Which fruit is the Best source of vitamin C?
Strawberries! (Nice, Karena!)

BONUS: Which ingredients make up the “holy trinity” of cooking? Celery + Onion + Carrots! Also known as the “Mirepoix” – it is the flavor base for most stocks, stews, sauces and soups! This was one of the few questions that I knew right away; thank you Food Science classes! (It’s clearly not due to my extensive cooking skills.)

Lacey did awesome, attempting to answer all 10!

Surprised by any of these?? Number 5 completely stumped me. I’m slightly ashamed to say the name was familiar, but the person behind it? Um, who?! Did a little research with that one.

HAPPY FRIDAY!
