Runningusa.org has conducted a neat little survey about habits of the typical male and female runner. Below is an excerpt of the typical male. I’ve put my answer to each question in red.
58.6% spent $90+ on their running shoes and 40.5% purchased their running shoes at a specialty running store – check
Favorite brands of running apparel: Nike (57.3%), Under Armour (40.4%), ASICS (32.2%), adidas (31.2%) (Asics, Adidas, Brooks)
77% spent $100+ on running apparel in the last 12 months and 63% purchased running apparel at a specialty running store - I only spend money on shoes
Average Weight: 172.9 – 162
Average Height: 5 feet 10 1/2 inches (um, not!)
Average Body Mass Index (BMI): 24.4 – not sure what mine is
45.2% are content with their weight check
44.3% are content with their fitness level – check, though I wish I was a sub 3:20-marathoner
Here’s a little chart from that survey as well. When I blogged last week that blacks don’t run , I didn’t know somebody was actually counting. But take a look for yourself at the demographics:
