Courtney Martin’s “Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters: How the Quest the Perfection is Harming Young Women” was released in paperback recently and since I already have the hardback edition, I’m giving away the paperback I picked up.
For those of you unfamiliar, Martin is a writer, teacher and feminist activist in her twenties. In a book that combines journalistic narrative, cultural criticism and psychological insight, she examines why so many girls and young women are at war with their external appearances and their internal lives. Her emphasis is on a huge cohort of young, college-bound and college-educated women of all weights, virtually all of whom, she argues, are affected by a pernicious culture of perfectionism and eating disorders. More info can be found on Martin’s website or find her at Feministing.

And if you don’t win this one, no worries. I plan to offer at least one contest/giveaway a month (when possible) in the New Year. All contests will be posted in the Contests/Giveaways forum on the messageboard.
