We can help others best when we help ourselves first

Boy is it tempting to jump right from helping ourselves into helping others.
It is easier to help others. We can give advice and guidance without actually having to do anything with it.
We can celebrate another's triumph without having to confront our fears of never being able to join them there.
We can congratulate ourselves on how supportive and caring we are, without having to acknowledge that the one person who never gets the benefit of that support or care is the one who needs it the most - us.
The truth is, we serve no one when we serve others before ourselves. In fact, there is great potential there to cause harm.
Ed, of course, will tell us that we are a lost cause but we can still be helpful to others, and redeem ourselves somehow in that small service.
But what does Ed know about serving others? What does Ed know about making this world a better place, one life at a time?
Truly - what the heck does Ed know about RECOVERY?
