Thanks Giving to My Eating Disorder

Posted Nov 24 2010 9:19am

thanks giving eating disorderI absolutely hated my eating disorder for so many years. I felt that it ruined my career, relationships, creativity and general progress in life. It took so many years from me that I could not get back. But today, I do genuinely feel great for what it has taught me and where it has brought me. So, in honor of thanksgiving, I would like to write a little gratitude and “Thanks Giving” list to my eating disorder:

  • You taught me that I can get through ANYTHING
  • You taught me to believe in myself
  • You taught me to listen to my own body
  • You taught me that I possess the greatest wisdom to take care of my own body
  • You taught me how to help other people
  • You taught me about recovery through service
  • You taught me how to connect with people
  • You taught me how to get out of isolation
  • You taught me about self care
  • You guided me to things I was too scared to ever try
  • You brought me to New York – in search of help to deal with you!
  • You forced me into relationships that terrified me
  • You taught me that whatever I dream CAN be real!

Can you think of the ways that your eating disorder has helped you? Is there anything you want to thank your eating disorder for?
