More Bang For My Caloric Buck

Posted Jun 25 2010 12:00am

I enjoy the physical act of eating therefore I love eating large amounts of food with high amounts of nutrients and low in calories.  Therefore I eat a lot of huge salads with tons and tons of different veggies!!  So I get to eat “a lot” of food.

I also eat a ton of popcorn.  My family jokes around that no one gets between me and my popcorn (it’s part of my threesome with coffee). Most of the time I use this bad boy for some fantastic snackage:

Yes, it’s a popcorn maker.  A VINTAGE popcorn maker courtesy of my grandparent’s from the 1970s.  How awesome is that?  Just buy some popcorn kernels measure them via the measuring cup on the top, dump the kernels in the hole, flip the on switch, and prepare yourself for a yummy nutritious snack.

Sometimes I’m not prepared and don’t have popcorn kernels (or I’m feeling lazy…trust me that machine can create some extra work), I like to keep these around:

Most RDs and other nutrition experts scoff at microwave popcorn for unnecessary chemicals however if you are willing to spend $3.75 for three bags of microwave popcorn, I’d suggest picking up a box of Bearitos popcorn.  It’s pricey BUT worth skipping all the nasty chemicals found in normal microwave popcorn.  Especially since the majority of microwave popcorns involve added butter (a no no for us vegans).

Now popcorn is a fantastic base for a variety of additions: salt, garlic salt, nutritional yeast, Bragg’s, olive oil spray, cinnamon, etc.  Personally I love lots and lots of nooch :)  I enjoy the cheezy factor!

Do you eat popcorn and if you do, do you add toppings?  Also, do you have any vintage cookware?
