Gum Disease

Posted Oct 04 2009 11:14pm
My mouth is sooooo sore from yesterday...go ahead and get your mind out of the gutter!

Yesterday, I went in for a routine cleaning with my dentist and come to find out I have a gum disease called periodontal disease. Like everything else on my isn't falling apart! So my routine check-up turned into a tortuous 3-hour procedure of root planing and scaling. Sparing you the painful details....but they had to numb my entire mouth. I was numb for about 4 hours & couldn't eat because they said you could bite a hole in your cheek or your tongue and wouldn't feel it. It was the strangest feeling. I felt like I had gotten botox b/c I couldn't smile and to top it off I can't eat any hard and hot foods for awhile. And get this...no nuts!! What?!

So here's what my meals look like: green smoothies!
In this mix is 1/2 cup soymilk, chilled chamomile tea, FAGE Greek yogurt,1/2 banana, 1/2 cup pumpkin, spinach, honey, and 1/2 cup red kidney beans for protein.

Breakfast was equally strange. Oats, banana, red kidney beans, berries, and some Greek yogurt. I'm on a beans kick apparently since it doesn't require much chewing.

The rest of the day consisted of more smoothies, applesauce, etc.

Moral of the story: Brush and floss your teeth twice a day! I need to take some more advil for my poor jaw. It's still really tender...eat some crunchy stuff and nuts for me!
