That's how I feel about the new year. I'm ready for a fresh start and new challenges so I say bring it on baby. Hello 2010! Me rocking the tiara and 2010 glasses last night.
I was so tempted to make the typical excuses to stay in last night. I didn't want to be around food, drinking, and staying up late but I forced myself to go out and enjoy myself. No more solitude!
And I'm glad I did because one of the best parts of getting out there is meeting new and interesting people. Like these two...he is a pro bono lawyer in New Orleans that helps battered women escape abusive husbands. She is studying to be an anthropologist at LSU and is absolutely fascinated obsessed with Africa and my country Iran. We had great conversations throughout the night.
The hosts: Becca and Matt. Matt and I have know each other for 11 years and he's been there for me through it all. Do I detect a slight crush forming? Hmmm...crossing the friends line...good or bad idea? I don't know how I managed to make it through UT and not played this drinking game. I think it was called cup flip? Two teams against each other. The first person has to drink their cup of beer and flip it to land perfectly upside down before their next team member can go. First team to completely flip all their cups wins. Dangerous for competetive people like me. I chose to play photographer instead.
Is a lot harder than you think.

All in all, I'm glad I kicked myself in the butt to spend the evening with friends. It was filled with laughter and good times. No better way to start the new year.
I can't help but remember how my new year started last year with some idiot rear-ending my brand new car at the mall. I thought my year would be filled with bad luck after the accident but I was wrong. I'm hopeful and feeling positive about this year. I have some good goals set and I know with the support of my family, friends, and blogging family (yes, you're my family now :) this will truly be a joyful and successful year. Here's to 2010!
