Do You Feel Like You Are Failing at Eating Disorder Recovery?
Posted Oct 25 2011 12:15pm
Do you feel that you are failing at eating disorder recovery? That you are not doing it “right”, that you are never going to recover and that you are just not “getting it”.
I am here to give you some hope and inspiration that whatever your thoughts are telling you now about “failure” are absolutely NOT TRUE.
Remember that this disorder lives in your head, and it takes time for our brains to catch up to all the positive actions we are taking.
Watch this Video about how to deal with thoughts that you are failing at recovery…
I can tell you that I constantly had thoughts like this, even when I was doing my best to “recover”.
That old eating disorder thinking kept coming back in and you know what that is – a bunch of B.S and it is self sabotage. The disorder wants to draw you back in, it wants to keep feeding you the lies and to keep you sick.
But if you are here, reading this, asking the questions, doing all that you can, one day at a time – you ARE recovering.
My recovery was certainly never smooth and easy, but I knew, without a doubt that I would NEVER give up.
Ideal Eating Disorder Recovery Vision Exercise:
I had my Ideal Vision and I would love for you all to do this exercise.
It is very simple and only takes a few minutes.
Take out a pen and paper and write out your Ideal Vision of YOUR recovery.
What does it feel like?
What are you doing?
What are you telling people?
Are you maybe helping others?
Here is the most crucial tip: Write it in the PRESENT tense – as if it were already true, right now.
See it as if it were already true, no matter what is going on around you.
Always keep this vision in your mind, build faith, KNOW that it is coming and never, ever, ever give up.
If I have done it and maintained it for SIX YEARS with no binge, no starving, no calorie counting, no obsession - then so can you.
I am not an expert, but I am an authority on this matter. Why? Because I have been where you are and now I am a living, breathing example of what it is like to be on the other side.
Again, dont forget to watch the video.
