Choosing anything less than life means we will not survive

Posted Aug 04 2011 12:11pm

Ed is a selfish sucker.

He would literally rather we lose our lives than endure having to lose our company.

Yet choosing anything less than life - with all of its unutterably tough decisions, nail-biting challenges, bottomless midnight meetings with loneliness, indecisions and endless questions - means that Ed is all that we've got left.

Who wants that?!

And from Ed's desperate perspective, what it must be like to be THAT unwanted?

None of us have ever been that unwanted. Not a one of us has ever yet gotten to the point where we honestly believe that Ed is a preferable alternative to even the faintest possibility of being able to truly LIVE.

Do you know how I know this?

Because you are reading these words right now. Out of the zillion places your mind could be right now, somehow it has found its way here....and chosen to stay.

We can give Ed our sympathy, our compassion, because we all know what it feels like to feel unwanted and lonely. But we don't have to join him there.

If you could live life in any way that you wanted today, go anywhere you wanted, do anything you wanted, be anyone you wanted to be, what would you do? Where would you go? What would you gather to you? Who would you be?

Quickly jot it all down - your random thoughts, inspirations, dreams - in your journal now.

Then go back and read it.

What is missing?

If you are anything like me, when I did this, what is missing is any mention of Ed.
