Anorexia and bulimia often get the lion’s share of eating disorder attention and resources, but its estimated that the numbers of people with binge eating disorder eclipses both of these conditions. Binge eating disorder rarely makes the news, it seems, but there’s new articles up over at Eating-Disorder.com on what constitutes BED and on the various and best ways to treat it. There was also a recent news article on the toll hard economic times are taking on people with binge eating disorder.
I have my own ideas on why BED is the red-headed stepchild of the eating disorder movement, but I want to hear yours first. Why do you think BED isn’t given the attention, importance and research it deserves? Do you struggle with BED? What have been your experiences both in treatment and from friends and family?
