I just stumbled across 'my daughter's addiction', and the other posts about Suboxone. I would like to offer up my thoughts as well; I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist in solo practice; I was an anesthesiologist and pain doc for ten years before that, until opiate addiction destroyed that career. Before med school I did basic science research for my PhD in neurochemistry, including work with opiate receptors before we knew there were so many subtypes of them.
I have been in 'old fashioned' step based recovery since 1993, save for the relapse in 2001-- amazing how much career damage a person can do in a few months! Now I teach addiction to med students and residents as asst clinical professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and I am medical director of a large aoda residential treatment center. I treat with Suboxone, but the treatment center does not.
On my blog, SuboxoneTalkZone.com, I discuss the personality factors behind addiction, the proper use of Suboxone, and the relationship between Suboxone and traditional recovery. Please check out my blog when you have the time.
