Health knowledge made personal
Dr. Martha Peaslee Levine is the Director of the Adult Partial Hospitalization and the Intensive Outpatient Programs in the Eating Disorders Clinic at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry. As a psychiatrist, Dr. Levine works with young people who struggle to find their voices, their talents, and enough belief in themselves to pursue their dreams. She uses writing as a way to health and runs a weekly journaling group to further patients' self-discovery.
Her blog, "Your Write to Health", http://www.eatingdisorderblogs.com/your_write_to_health/ has inspired others to grab up their pens and a blank page and start writing. She has lectured on Arts and Healing both nationally and internationally and has taught a fourth year medical student selective on this topic. She believes in the power of art and the ways in which it can contribute to improved emotional and physical health. Dr. Levine's publications include award-winning poetry, fiction and children's books, most recently STOP THAT NOSE! She has written articles and op-ed pieces to educate the public on eating disorders and the health benefit of writing and creativity.
