Dr. Johanna Marie Mcshane has been working in the field of eating disorders treatment for 20 years. She was staff therapist and assessment/intake counselor for the Serenity Eating Disorders Program at Mt. Diablo Medical Center, an inpatient eating disorders program in Northern California, from 1991 to 1994. She was a founding member and director of psychotherapies at the Integrated Therapies Program for Eating Disorders, an intensive outpatient program also in Northern California, from 1996 to 1998. Dr. McShane has been in private practice since 1994, working with adolescents and adults who have eating disorders, their families and significant others. She is co-developer of the Diablo Valley Family Centered Model, a psychotherapeutic treatment model for working with families in which there is an eating disorder or related issue. In addition to working directly with clients, Dr. McShane leads seminars for professionals and facilitates workshops for people who suffer from eating disorders. She has spoken extensively about causes and treatment of anorexia, bulimia and binge-eating disorders, and regularly provides consultation for clinics, hospitals and private practitioners. Dr. McShane is the co-author of "Why she feels fat: Understanding your loved one's eating disorder and how you can help? (2008, Gurze Books) and has published articles in Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention; Eating Disorders Today; The Journal of Trauma and Dissociation (October, 2008), and other publications.
