Bio
I am an emergency physician in practice in a medium-sized department in Upstate South Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills. Our volume is just about 40,000 visits per year.
I have been married to my wife Jan for 18 years; we have four children, ranging from 13 years down to seven. We are both originally from West Virginia; college sweethearts who met at Marshall University. I went on to medical school at WVU.
I did my emergency medicine residency at Methodist Hospital of Indiana, and have lived in South Carolina since finishing my training.
I write twice monthly for the Greenville News, a Gannett newspaper in Greenville, SC. I also write a monthly column for Emergency Medicine News, the most widely read periodical in the specialty. My column is called 'Second Opinion,' and is really an op-ed about life in the emergency department.
My blog was recently listed by the LA Times as a notable medical blog. This year I also won a Gold Medal Award from the American Society of Healthcare Publications Editors for my column in Emergency Medicine News. It has been a great year for my writing career!
My wife home-schools our children, and does it with amazing skill. We are members of College Street Baptist Church in Walhalla, SC, where I am a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
I hope you enjoy my posts!
Sincerely,
Edwin Leap
