I have to admit that I underestimate Gabi's intellectual abilities often. This morning, Preston woke early for a bottle. Gabi was still sleeping. So, I decided to watch my taped episode of Dead Zone while I fed Preston. Just after he finished his bottle, Gabi came into my room and climbed in bed. She said, "Watch movie with Mommy?" If it is not a child's show, then she calls it a movie. I said "Yes." In this particular episode, Johnny was trying to assist the vice-president and NASA in bringing the damaged space shuttle back to Earth safely. There was one scene where Johnny was having one of his visions, he was walking on the space shuttle, and he was looking around watching Earth from space. Gabi says to me, "Look Mommy! It's the moon!" I just assume she doesn't know and agree. "Yeah, Gabi, the moon," I know, I know, but I was tired. Well, then she changes her mind, "Planets, Mommy!" Now, she really had my attention. I sit up and say "Yes, Gabi, you are right! That is Earth, and it is a planet!" Then she asks, "Mommy, what is that?" I answer, "That is a space shuttle." She repeats "A space shuttle." A few minutes later, they show the space shuttle again, and she says, "Look Mommy, a space shuttle!"
Where does she learn this stuff? We have never talked about planets and stuff before. How did she know about planets? Did she learn it in school? The only thing she typically watches on TV is Sesame street, Barney, Blues Clues and Dora The Explorer. I know she hasn't seen any episodes on planets. Believe me, I've seen them ALL!! She just amazes me sometimes because not only did she learn about it, she retained it.
