Today was our Buddy Walk! We were up extra early and getting ready to make the longish drive (after the 24 hour drive to Canada I have a different distance perspective). We had never been to the Denver Buddy Walk before and rather enjoyed the contrasting weather of the cold and rainy Cleveland Walks. Will and Liv waited patiently at the face painting booth. Will was given the choice of a spider or a football from the short, preselected designs. Will picked the spider. Will has long had a fascination with spiders.
After the walk we decided to go on a Sunday drive and, seeing as we were so much closer to it, headed to the continental divide and the Eisenhower tunnel. On the way home we stopped at a shrine. Ya, a shrine. The Mother Cabrini Shrine was familiar to Mark as his company had worked with the nuns at the convent previously. Climbing all the stairs at the top of the mountain proved a bit of a test, but we all made it and were rewarded with a solemn, peaceful respite, and a beautiful view.
Interestingly, there were three other families there that included a family member with DS. I was surprised how busy the shrine was, and how many people made the lung busting trip to the top. (climbing stairs at altitude is a little more challenging than at sea level).
